President's Message

Welcome to the 183th Odessa Fair!  I am very pleased to be the 2018  President of the Odessa Agricultural Society and wish to thank the directors for their support.

Our new midway “Worlds Finest” will bring the 2018 Odessa fair to life Friday July 13 at 5pm.  Thursday evening and Friday morning the palace will be filling up with wonderful exhibits of crafts, bake goods, vegetables and crops for all to enjoy after the judging.  Good luck to all the entrants. Tractors will be arriving at 5pm to weigh in for Annual Tractor Pull which starts at 6pm.  From antique to farm stock tractors come and watch the tires spin and smoke roll as drivers try to go the distance.  Watch the pull, check out the vendors, get a burger and stay for the entertainment by the Runaway Cowboys in the arena at 8pm playing Classic Country Rock and Roll. Saturday morning participate in the parade or line the street to show your community support.  The children's and adult games are back this year.  Be sure to be there after the parade to have some fun!  Family and friends come and cheer them on. Then take in the shows; cattle, poultry, western and english horse show and  horse pull.  Something for everyone! To complete your Saturday enjoyment we are happy to have Abbey Stewart performing in the arena at 8pm.  Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy this local 17 year old singer/songwriter. Sunday we will be running children and adult games while you get your seats for the ever popular Demolition Derby.  Getting underway at 1pm, watch the action and cheer on your favourite driver.  If the roar of the derby is not for you, walk through the poultry barn and the palace and enjoy the excitement.

We are fortunate to have one of the largest cattle show in the area and have outgrown our cattle barn so plans are underway to repair the existing and extend the length giving us more space.  Check out the plans for the new barn at the cattle show and in the palace. We are now fund-raising for this project, watch for more details on a barn raising dance in the fall.  We are always striving to promote agriculture at our fair which is both educational and entertaining.

Throughout the year the fairgrounds is very busy. We have a car show, antique show, dog show, military show to name a few and the palace is a popular venue for parties and weddings. Please support the Farmer’s Market at the fairgrounds every Friday from 2 to 6pm from May to October.

I wish to extend a thank you to our dedicated directors, advertisers, volunteers, participants, and sponsors whose hard work, commitment and enthusiasm throughout the year make the Odessa Fairgrounds a success. I encourage you to become a part of the fair tradition, attend, exhibit, volunteer, watch the events, support the concessions and welcome World’s Finest Midway to Odessa.

Please check out the fair program, like us on Facebook and come for a day or the weekend and help continue the tradition of making the Odessa Fair a fun place to be, the place to meet old friends and make new ones.

We welcome your comments and look forward to seeing everyone at the Fair July 13th to 15th. I can be reached by email kimfarms@kingston.net or 613-561-9461.
